What a specatacular weekend for Duck fans!   Friday Galen Rupp ran a spectacular race in Fayetteville and sets an American record of 13:18.12  breaking 13:20 for the first time indoors by an American and a 12 second pr for himself. This follows his 5 second pr from earlier in the year in the 3k at 7:44.69 from February 7th.

On Saturday Lindsay Scherf tried to knock out defending NCAA champion Susan Kuiken of Florida State in the 3k but she couldn't keep up the pace and finished in 9:19.25.  Not her top event, this is just off her pr of 9:18.89 from 2006.  This is a good sign of her return to condition after missing competition most of the last two seasons ('06-'07 and '07-'08 track season).  Her effort and strength of will were impressive and shows why she is a threat in the indoor 5k to score and will be tough to beat outdoors in the 10k.  She has already run 15:55.67 on January 30th and became the first Duck to break 16 minutes.  She is currently seeded third for the NCAA meet.

Mattie Bridgmon ran a somewhat unnoticed 24 second pr in the 5k with a time of 16:09.29 and is now the 7th seed for the NCAA meet and third on Oregon's all-time indoor list.

The men's 5,000 meters was also an incredible race.  In his first ever indoor track season Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott ran an 18 second personal record in the 3k , 7:55.27, on February 7th after running a 3:57 anchor leg on the #2 DMR team from January 30th.  This indoor season is a direct result of full and healthy training since last spring.  In the 5k on Saturday he ran a 14 second pr in the 5k by running 13:41.66 and is currently seeded 5th on the collegiate list.  In the same race Luke Puskedra followed his third place showing at the US junior cross country meet with a 13:46.52, seeded eighth on the NCAA list, run in the same race against K-B.  The two Ducks moved to third and fourth on Oregon's all-time indoor list.

Oregon is on pace to have a great shot at winning the NCAA meet on the men's side and score well on the women's side.
