SEATTLE, Wash. – Oklahoma State’s German Fernandez continued his record-breaking trend on Saturday at the Husky Classic, finishing the 3,000-meter run in 7:47.97, which shatters the previous school record of 7:53.10 and ranks as the second-fastest collegiate time in the country this year.

Only Oregon’s Galen Rupp, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, has finished the event with a faster time this year.

Fernandez’s time also gave him the fastest 3,000-meter time at the Husky Classic, a Dempsey Indoor facility record and an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

John Kosgei also ran well for the Cowboys in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 7:55.95, which places him third only to Fernandez  and Jon Wild on the school-record list and gives him a provisional NCAA qualifying mark.

Johnathan Stublaski, Brian Gosnell and Brad McNiff competed in the one-mile run, finishing with times of 4:11.43, 4:18.02 and 4:33.87, respectively.

Clay Mayes ran the 5,000 meters for the Cowboys, finishing with a time of 14:31.04.

Oklahoma State returns to action on Feb. 21, when the Cowboys travel to Norman, Okla., for the Sooner Open II.
